An employee in this class is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of water and waste systems.
Assignments are generally routine and detailed instructions are given with assignments.
Problems are referred to the supervisor.
Errors are quickly revealed and performance may be checked upon completion of assignments.
The employee receives direct supervision.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Working knowledge of the techniques, methods and tools of the plumbing trade Skills in the use of tools, materials and equipment used in plumbing work Ability to understand and carry out oral or written instructions Must furnish own hand tools Must have a valid North Carolina driver's license and provide own transportation to and from work Must be able to obtain CDL (Commercial Divers License) permit within 6 months of employment and CDL License within 1 year of employment Must be willing to work overtime (weekends or afternoons) when necessary Must be willing to perform duties indoors and outdoors during normal/extreme weather conditions Must be drug and alcohol free and will be periodically tested for drugs and alcoholEDUCATION AND TRAINING:
Must have at least five years experience in the plumbing trade as a journeyman.
A NC Plumbing Class I Contractor License preferred.

Responsibilities:
Measures, cuts, threads, assembles and installs pipes and tubing.
Connects valves and joints, caulks, and tests finished job by allowing water to flow through.
Installs water, sanitary fixtures and equipment with supports, hangers or foundations.
Eliminates leaks by repacking valves or by replacing faulty fittings or sections in line.
Replaces worn parts.
Makes corrections as needed.
Must be able to read blueprints.
Works in other trades, if necessary.
Adheres to mandated uniform procedures Performs other duties as specified by the Maintenance Director / Assistant Maintenance Director or their designee.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to pass employment physical.
Ability to lift moderate to heavy weight (80-100 pounds), 25 pounds routinely and 100 pounds occasionally and be able to stand, walk, run, bend, stoop, push, pull, reach, and climb ladders and work on scaffolding, for extended periods of time.
Ability to be on feet 8 hours per day conducting moderate manual labor routinely.
Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations.
Must be able to travel to a variety of school sites.
